New works by David Millidge explore the evolution of pottery to ceramic sculpture. Although clearly based on traditional shapes of pots and bowls, these works show a transition away from the functionality of these vessels. They reveal a transformation as they expand, explode, fragment and re-assemble. The decoration or adornments of these containers develop to become the structure itself as they evolve into sculpture. In addition to asking questions as to their identity, the use of layered glazes and lustres renders them aesthetically stunning.
