Kathryn Hearn

Kathryn Hearn’s porcelain hand-built vessels are inspired by the atmospheric skies above the Cambridgeshire Fens, acknowledging the farming practices in this industrial agricultural landscape whilst reinforced by the fenlander’s tenacious and protective attitudes. It refers to the farmer’s intrinsic use of craft working within their uncompromising and functional environment. In addition, she is interested in cultural functional vessels, like the Korean Josean Moon Jar in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. She is keen to refer to the very direct production and deconstruction of hand-building in these ancient jars, recognising imperfection but also the representation of femininity and purity.
