Kathryn Hearn is not interested in perfection in her own porcelain work. She is influenced by the changing landscapes and attitudes of the environment and people in which she is surrounded. Particularly ‘make do and mend’ culture of utilitarian objects in the farming practices and unacknowledged craft in our lives. She enjoys the innate nature of skills in ceramics and the deconstruction of its visual language. Wanting to explore risky and uncompromising qualities in hand-building and the layered narrative of life. She creates vessels both functional or sculptural and wall pieces that can be studied in absorbing detail.
