Bahareh Khomeiry

With a background in architecture, Bahareh explores the act of constructing and assembling elements, finding balance in her ceramic work. Inspired by the way Persian domes are built, layer by layer, with each brick playing a vital role, she applies a similar approach to ceramics, combining hand-building and throwing techniques to create structured yet fluid forms.

Her series Hair as Freedom: Cut Plaits is a deeply personal tribute to the “Women, Life, Freedom” movement that emerged in Iran in 2022. Witnessing the courage of Iranian women as they removed their headscarves and cut their hair in defiance of oppression left a profound impact on her.

This three-piece ceramic series captures their journey, moving from a state of entrapment to breaking free and, ultimately, finding unity. Each piece embodies a stage of transformation, mirroring the resilience, strength, and collective hope of those fighting for gender equality and freedom. Cut plaits is the concept of these protesting women fighting for their rights.
