Laurel Keeley
The area of Devon in which Laurel lives is the site of former manganese mining. Hidden beneath the fields there is a mineral lode that runs east to west, too lean now to be of any commercial interest. But these things are important to a potter, so this work is an exploration of these minerals and the layers of rock from which come the oxides used in her work.
Laurel hand builds and throws stoneware pots, using white slips and texture to hold the energy of inlaid manganese, copper, and iron.
