Matthew Blakely
Matthew Blakely’s work is made entirely from clays and rocks collected from places he has visited in the UK. Clays form the body, with crushed, ground and blended rocks producing the glazes. All metamorphosed by the intense heat of the wood kiln. Every colour, texture, cascade and crystal comes from the minerals in these rocks, and their interaction with the wood ash that is carried through the kiln. Each glaze is made using rocks from a specific location, so becoming a ceramic representation of the geology found there. Landscapes captured in a pot.
