Richard St. John Heeley
Richard St. John Heeley specialises in free-flowing brush decoration and the creation of unique drinking vessels. Thrown on a momentum wheel, his work is inspired by Korean and Japanese pottery traditions. Renowned for his blue and white porcelain, Richard’s recent focus is on wood-fired, shino-glazed porcelain. He embraces a holistic approach to both his craft and lifestyle. Alongside his wife, Lucy, he co-owns and manages Hempmill Pottery & Cookery School, located on the Shropshire-Staffordshire border. Richard handcrafts his own tools and brushes, fires his pieces with locally sourced wood, and gathers clay and materials from the Hempmill wetlands.
