David Stonehouse
David’s Shoreline series of hand-thrown stoneware is inspired by pebbles found on walks along the Suffolk and Pembrokeshire coasts. Shaped through processes akin to coastal erosion, these pieces are forged through the reductive and refining acts of turning, incising and scouring. Veins of slip inlaid across contrasting clay bodies draw the eye to each vessel’s surface and the natural beauty of their materials. These visual fissures, diverging and rejoining, move from the scale of collected beach shingle to take on the traced lines of a craggy foreshore, beach tide marks or lacey patterns of seafoam at the water’s edge.
