Gaby Guz

Gaby Guz makes decorative, wheel-thrown pieces using the firing techniques of saggar and naked raku. These low-temperature firings allow the smooth surface of her pots to act as a canvas, and absorb marks created by smoke, copper, cobalt, steel and iron. Through ongoing experimentation with saggar firing, Gaby has developed an innovative method which allows her to create designs by controlling and shaping these dynamic markings. The resultant colours reflect Gaby’s love of earth colours such as siennas, ochres and umbers, which she also uses in her life drawing, an essential part of Gaby’s creative practice. Each piece is a one-off, a unique interplay between form and surface decoration.
