Landis Carey
Landis Carey is a ceramic artist who experiences synesthesia. She feels colour. Following a rare pancreatic cancer diagnosis and strenuous recovery, Landis’s ceramic practice shifted after experiencing colour visions during meditation. The emotionally charged, infinite swaths of rich, undulating colour and piercing white light underpin her work.
Experimenting with glaze quality, Landis recreates portions of her colour visions on clay wall installations. She intricately layers glazes to achieve colour and light variations. Lighter glazes pierce darker ones, reaching the vessel’s surface, where ambient light further draws attention. Her explorations have led her to investigate new ceramic forms and presentations.
