Micaela Schoop
My ceramics combine organic forms with elaborate surface decorations, which are all meticulously hand-painted. I draw my inspiration from ethnological patterns and historical ceramic traditions from across the world. By sensitively fusing these patterns and pottery styles I question assumptions about cultural identities, boundaries and belonging. The addition of various visual communication systems such as Morse code or QR codes gives me a means to add text. This way I can explore ideas relating to human communication and directly reflect and comment on current issues without being explicit.
