Sarah Villeneau
Villeneau’s work conjures ideas of the body, evoking the visceral, whilst also suggesting some long lost life form, fossilised remains or relic of a bygone age. Toying with ideas of attraction and repulsion the work can be challenging and disturbing, eliciting a gut reaction that heightens viewers’ awareness of their own corporeality. Yet there is a light touch to the work which is tactile and playful, inviting touch and sometimes including removable parts and musical elements.
Decorated with a volcanic engobe and earth coloured glazes, the pieces are fired to stoneware in a electric kiln.
