Sarah Walton

Sarah Walton studied painting, and landscape was her subject. On becoming a potter, she first made pots, then birdbaths; both being objects that serve a practical purpose. The ceramic landscapes she now makes, serve none, and are simply sculptures.

Sarah sees a connecting thread through all her work. She wants form to say almost everything; she wants monumentality, tenderness and austerity even to the point of tragedy, hoping she might thereby express adequately both how hard and wonderful life is. Her landscapes are constructs where she tries to get a small piece to convey a huge continuing form.
