Vanessa Hogge
Working predominantly in porcelain from her London studio, Vanessa has developed her own unique hand building method of making ceramic flowers. Vanessa doesn’t use sprigs or press moulds but makes each element by hand – painstakingly and repetitively rolling, cutting and pinching the malleable material. Vanessa then builds complex scenarios, altering surfaces with either a collection of the same minute pieces or a mixture of imaginary blooms jammed together with creamy slip (liquid clay). The works are then fired to high temperatures to create unglazed and brittle, ossified shades of white and lava-like black.
