Stephen Dixon reveals the research behind his latest project Credenza exhibited at Collect 2025. The installation questions the use of artificial intelligence in contemporary visual culture using Renaissance-type objects. His research-based practice investigates contemporary narratives through ceramics. His work is in the collections of the V&A Museum and the Museum of Arts and Design, New York.
Stephen Dixon studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and Ceramics at the Royal College of Art, graduating in 1986. He is Professor Emeritus at Manchester School of Art, investigating contemporary narratives in ceramics. Known mainly for using ceramics as an unlikely platform for social commentary and political discontent he draws on a variety of sources – from Renaissance painting and British politics to pop culture – to challenge the status quo and inspire new ways of thinking.
